“Love it. A must-listen for me. Jon and Andy do a great job breaking down film scores to an almost granular level. I feel like I know my stuff but these two put me to shame with their level of detail and use of audio excerpts to illustrate their points. Their knowledge of all things classical music, film scoring, and orchestration are really an education to the listener. And boy does Andy do his research! Whether it be finding a TV score that Jerry Goldsmith did years before CHINATOWN that essentially featured the same main title, or finding snippets of audio of the unusual instruments used in PLANET OF THE APES, or playing the opening bars of Copland’s “Open Prairie” or “The Red Pony” to demonstrate where Elmer Bernstein found inspiration for THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN…he really throws himself into these podcasts; the time and effort is super impressive. Both guys are top shelf as far as I’m concerned— Jon has terrific insights on the role and approach of a film composer— and their banter and (obvious) friendship gives the whole thing a light, warm feel. Thanks gentlemen! Great podcast!”
