Description
For most people, your gender is assigned even before you’re born into this world. Rarely are you encouraged to explore what gender means to you or how you want to express it. However, things ARE shifting! More people are exploring their gender and checking their assumptions of what gender is at the door. Exploring gender can be exciting and liberating! It can also be isolating, scary and bring up feelings of grief. For this show I invited my friend and fellow peer, Jade, to talk about gender and their personal gender journey. Jade identifies as genderqueer and genderfree, living their best life from a body that sometimes has multiple cocks, almost always has a pussy, and can get so switchy they f*ck any gender norms right out of the room. If you wanted to learn more about gender, this is the episode for you!
About Jade: Jade is a queer as f**k edge species living with cooper’s hawks, oak trees and family on Clackamas land, outside of Portland Oregon. They come from artists and farmers who traded their Ashkenazi Jewish and Romani lifeways for whiteness when immigrating in the 1900s to the states. They’re actively trading this back, unwinding whiteness while inviting in the informative grief and connective magic of their ancestral lineages. Jade identifies as genderqueer and genderfree, living their best life from a body that sometimes has multiple cocks, almost always has a pussy, and can get so switchy they f**k any gender norms right out of the room. They learned how to m********e at age 2 in a furniture store, and have been weaving pleasure into the mundane ever since. They have a private practice in Portland, Oregon, called Rhythm Liberation. What do these two words feel like for you? Their practice centers trans, queer and questioning folx, offering intimacy support and somatic sex education. They also hold group space for eroticism, pleasure gendering, and unwinding whiteness. Can grief, pain, repair be pleasurable, playful, a prayer?

Lyrics from Jade’s Song:
Gender is a funny thing
I do believe the bells can ring
if we make space to play beyond
what's assigned at birth
fear is not an obstacle
if loving hands are here to hold
baby steps into unknown
who are you in the genderfree world?
elemental flow
blending of our tone
mixing up the matrix of our essential properties
let's be clear
we are made of many things
and if we explore what that means
we can compost colonial tendencies
and call back our connection to
freedom in our bodies
freedom in our choices
freedom in our loving
freedom in how we relate
how we relate
how we relate

About Sex Ed for the Modern Bed: I have been working as a sex educator since 2014. First as a non-monogamous educator and podcaster with my partner. In April 2021 I decided that I wanted to expand my knowledge surrounding sex education and enrolled in school to become a certified Somatic Sex Educator and Sexological Bodyworker. I have recently completed my fourth Core Course with my Institute and I am a certified "Like a Pro" graduate with the School of Consent. I am currently starting a waitlist to work with clients both online and in-person. Read more about Somatic Sex Education and Sexological Bodywork is: https://www.sexedforthemodernbed.com/about
