The Rise and Fall of Disney Channel
Listen now
Description
The rise and fall of Disney Channel is one of the most fascinating times of popculture history. From the 90s to 2019, Disney had a near monopoly over ever corner of the entertainment industy. From music, to TV, to movies, they were churning out stars in what one could only describe as a popstar factory. In this episode, we took a deep dive on the origins of Disney Channel, it's rise to stardom, and what cause Disney channel to lose it's edge in the social media and streaming era. How the mistreatment of their talent seems to only be a symptom of a greater culture problem, and how Disney's obsessive need for control is reflected today with their out of touch responses to the WGA and SAG writer's strike.
