She founded #BreakingTheStereotype, an NPO aimed to empower, motivate, and encourage females to study Science and Engineering. Her company, Enlighten Edu, provides assistance to learners struggling with Maths and Science. Through the platform, learners can have live sessions, complete homework, and monitor their progress using analytics. She holds a BSc in Computer Science cum laude from the University of Fort Hare and an MSc in Computer Engineering from the University of Cape Town. Apiwe’s technical background is in project management, product development, technology innovation, systems engineering and spearheading socio-economic initiatives to improve entrepreneurship and innovation in rural areas. She has received a number of awards such as: Mail&Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans, News24 100 young Mandelas, top inspiring women in ICT, NYDA trailblazer, won the Rising Star Award in the ICT category, acknowledged by Inside Education as one of the 100 Shining Stars in Science and named as one of the 2023 Unsung Heroes by Sunday World.
