Up My Alley
With both their voice and writing, Stephen Indrisano, delivers a great story. One that, like all great stories and suburbs, extends out far in every direction. Deeper and deeper we go. Into the character’s past. Into the strange things happening in Shelterwood. And into the future, asking yourself, “just where is this story headed?” Indrisano delivers a master class in world building. The prose is immersive. The sound design is absorbing. When Nicholas is in a pitch black basement — it literally sounds like he’s in a pitch black basement. I don’t know how to explain this, but the scene sounds completely devoid of light. Superb casting choices all around. Ray O’Hare had me googling to find out “who is this brilliant voice actor?” Terrific performance. Three episodes into what is sure to be an epic mystery and I’m all ears. When a new episode of Shelterwood drops I know it’s time for me to put in my earbuds and take a walk around the neighborhood. Shelterwood is right up my alley.
