Why so serious? In this episode, Shelby and Laura, review Todd Phillips's musical sequel film Joker: Folie a Deux starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. 5 years after the oscar-winning Joker film premiered, Arthur Fleck is back, imprisoned, on trial, falling in love with Harley Quinn, and randomly singing across Arkham. Spoiler alert -- Joker 2 did not live up to our sky high expectations and had way too much music.
Shelby and Laura dissect Joker: Folie a Deux's shocking box office flop and scathing reviews, explain what "folie a deux" actually means, highlight our few favorite moments, including the opening cartoon scene and when Arthur decides to represent himself in full clown makeup, analyze what went wrong with the film's many musical numbers, discuss how Lady Gaga was underutilized as Harley Quinn, and debate whether having an alter ego is a green flag.
