On episode 1. A bit disappointed
I usually love the Skimm and was a bit disappointed at this reporting on Venezuela. As a Venezuelan, I think there was a whole piece of the pie missing on China and Russia’s economic interest in supporting Maduro’s dictatorship and the government elite and high ranking military’s interest to hold on to power. It was also narrow in explaining how the country got to where it is quoting Trump’s “it’s because of socialism”. Well it was authoritarianism, corruption and mismanagement. Socialist policies with the right checks and balances can lead to social equity. The problem with US reporting of this situation is that it’s always explained through US partisanship forgetting that there’s a huge humanitarian crisis, real people suffering and dying who are DESPERATE for change. Maybe you did not consult with a Venezuelan before publishing, because any one of us living in the US would have given you this feedback.

I think the podcast is a good concept and delivers news efficiently however, the voice of the narrator seems so rehearsed and monotonous. I’d prefer a less scripted type of atmosphere.

Hi I really don’t mean to be mean but I love the skimm and am excited about this podcast, but the voice actor you chose is annoying to listen to. Please choose someone else.
