My favorite podcast
I have been listening to this show faithfully for about eight years now, and I have rarely missed an episode. This show avoids the Podcast Banter Problem™️ perfectly in my opinion. There isn’t much chit chat, and every segment is a well produced, highly edited and succinct conversation about the topic at hand. I don’t want to sit around listening to random people talk to each other, that’s not why I listen to a podcast. I listen to a podcast to learn things. More importantly, however, these three are truly brilliant cultural critics. Their academic backgrounds make for very high-level analysis and conversation. They’re outrageously smart, savvy, articule hosts. My only quibble is I kind of wish they would never talk about music. There is a distinctly white, indie, Gen X point of view there that is just too narrow. It’s kind of like listening to NPR that way, I just skip the music discussion altogether. Ditto for all the discussions of tentpole Marvel movies. I understand it’s important to cover what Americans are actually watching, but those are segments I always skip. Otherwise this is a perfect show, and I always call it “my favorite podcast” for good reason. 10/10!

And after the events of 2020 as a person from the BIPOC community, I can no longer tolerate three white affluent people telling me what culture is....Read full review »

I’ve been loving thinking along with these folks as a listener for ~10 years. The show’s given me lots to chew on and helped me sharpen my own analyses, even (or especially) when I quibble with one of the host’s takes (ok, it’s usually Steve’s ;). I’m so grateful that the hosts have kept at it...Read full review »

This is a shout out to the Hudson Valley Hero of the Hued who spent his time slandering healthcare workers during the endorsement segment of the most recent episode. Lesser people like I might deem it ill-advised to tar and feather doctors and nurses as vicious racists, especially during a global...Read full review »
