“This is a pretty fascinating look at the Ruby Ridge stand-off. It’s difficult to take at times: the host’s desire to get insight into the motivations of the Nazis solely responsible for the carnage there starts to sound an awful lot like platforming on their behalf. Statements from neo-Nazis like the Weavers’ neighbors the Browns go unchallenged and unremarked-upon. It’d be a five-star show if not for this undercurrent. If you’ve ever been a victim of violence perpetrated by white supremacist fanatics like the Weavers, be prepared for the kid glove treatment they get on this show to be pretty infuriating.
If anything, the ‘Plus’ segments are much harder-hitting and more explicit about the explicit Nazism that was the Weavers’ guiding philosophy. They’re a helpful corrective to the false equivalency that sneaks into the main program.”
