“The narrator is great but the supporting cast is awful! The lady in episode 03 is on a whole other level of ham with a side of cheese. Accent was terrible and her nasal tone was grating. The story is actually pretty compelling and I do like the noir style and mood overall but the supporting cast takes me out of it completely. The show would get a 5 if they acting was better. And also, the dude from the No Sleep needs to stop acting plus I loathe that I have to hear him in the intro. Could have been great. Black Tapes and Tanis are a step up from this in my humble opinion.
One narrative hang up as well, why does EVERYONE in this small town know about some random dude’s podcast. Do everyone in small towns consume podcasts over television? How would they all know 2 episodes deep into a show. Is the writer of this positing that podcasts are as universally consumed as a television show on CBS? Seems like a big flaw in the writing. The way it would go down if a guy from a small town was doing this is: narrator, “I am recording our conversation for a podcast,” other person from the small town, “what’s a podcast?” Then the narrator would explain for a few minutes what it was and then the person from town would say “um, ok, I may look that up later” and then totally forget to do it and watch some middle of the road show like NCIS instead.”
