Emily Hanford’s work on elementary education and literacy in the US changed the game, and now, in the best of ways, she has done it again. “The Idea” is so clear, and so well scaffolded by “The Problem”, that you’ll wonder how something so simple has had so much power, and caused so much harm. Then Ms. Hanford will tell you how. Decades ago, it was already said that if a foreign power had done this to America, we’d consider it an act of war. What an incredible podcast! As a former 1st and 2nd grade teacher, this is such a thought provoking story. Makes me question many of my practices…and I wish I had some “do overs.” “Sold a Story” is a well-written and accurate depiction of what is happening in many reading classes today!

The truth about reading instruction! Luckily our district has finally open its eyes and had enough $$ to purchase a high quality edreport verified program which actually teaches students to READ carefully and READ accurately.
