Infuriating and inspiring
As a former reading recovery teacher, I feel relieved knowing that someone has uncovered the detrimentally misguided research which informed reading instruction in this country for far too long. Teachers are not to be blamed but it’s still a hard pill to swallow as most educators are committed to doing the best for their students, despite being mislead by higher education and the powers that be. It’s hard to reconcile that my balanced literacy and reading recovery training is now obsolete but I’m sounding the alarm everywhere I can! Thank you for initiating this!

This is a story that could easily be told in a single episode. Emily Hanford is a good, thorough journalist but somebody in public media must have said “if you make it long it will seem more serious.”
