Could not be more biased or poorly researched
I’m already extremely cynical about celebrity mega churches (having actually studied and attended them to see what they’re all about) and I am STUNNED by how quickly this episode really just turned into a thinly veiled critique of evangelicalism at large, with almost zero information about the specific churches this episode was supposed to be about. I could write a book on how many of their assumptions they didn’t care enough to back up, but I’ll just say this: no one has EVER been called a “junior pastor”; evangelicals do not call themselves “parishoners”; celebrities are allowed to be Christians even if they’re successful and that does not actually constitute “prosperity gospel.” I guess a lot of this is specifically in response to the guest host who was equally ignorant but WOW y’all could have had me! I love this stuff! There is so much problematic stuff about these mega churches and you guys missed big time.

More reviews of Sounds Like A Cult
Concise, engaging, funny, well-produced and easily my new favorite podcast. I think it’s worth delving more into the specific manipulation tactics at play that makes a cult a cult, but this more lighthearted perspective is also needed

MLM

I listened to the Tony Robbins episode first and I had no idea - definitely have biz friends who idolise him, but never engaged with his stuff myself - definitely won't ever now! I binged all other episodes in a few days and now can't wait for...Read full review »
