Disappointing lack of insight
I was super disappointed by the shallow depiction of the flat earther community, which lacked any nuance or insight. It would have been interesting to see this topic covered with an empathetic lense, perhaps touching on mental illness, traumatic life events, social isolation, or other factors that make people more susceptible to this mode of thinking. Describing flat earthers as “idiots” who live in their mothers’ basements, reveals the hosts’ intellectual elitism and privilege. I don’t normally review podcasts I don’t like but this one just seems to spread judgement and vitriol. Ironically, spreading some vitriol of my own, the hosts’ manner of speaking sounds vapid and their jokes are truly, truly, unfunny.

More reviews of Sounds Like A Cult
Man I was excited to get into this show. But then you had to isolate half of the country with your political comments. You know what’s a cult? Thinking you’re more intelligent and better than 50% of America.

I think about these things all the time, watch all the docu-series, so this was perfect! Major perk that it’s hilarious! Totally buying her book!

I heard about this podcast from Amanda’s episode on ScamWow. I think the amount of information is good, given that it’s a 30ish minute show. If y’all ever want to do a deep dive on the megachurches and Herbalife, I’m here for it.
