Dr. Hasini Jayatilaka – Forbes 30 Under 30 Cancer Researcher and her amazing discovery on how to slow the spread of cancer cells
Description
“Cancer is an extremely smart disease. It’s one of the reasons we’ve battled it for so long.” – Dr. Hasini Jayatilaka.
Dr. Hasini Jayatilaka (@hasinijt) is an acclaimed cancer researcher, scientist, and TED speaker. She grew up in Colombo, Sri Lanka and pursued her BS and PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
At 28, Hasini made it the 2018 Forbes 30 under 30 under the science category for her extraordinary research work. She discovered a signaling pathway that controls how cancer cells spread through the body and a way to block that pathway (Watch her TED talk!). This has led to the development of new therapeutics currently moving through the pipeline aimed at targeting tumor growth and metastasis. Hasini is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford studying childhood leukemia.
In this conversation, we discuss:
Hasini’s childhood growing up in Sri Lanka during a civil war
The incredible story behind her ground-breaking research on cancer cells as a sophomore at Johns Hopkins
The future of cancer therapy in the next 10-15 years
Dealing with “The Impostor Syndrome” and believing in yourself
Much, much more…
You’re going to love this – I learned a TON! Please enjoy!
