Sam Bankman Fried - Spellcaster
Hannah Miller did a great job in presenting one of the largest ever con job. I found her podcast compelling explaining how an immature frat boy and his well to do pals managed to pull off this scam. Sam was / is a “game player” (weird for someone who’s 30 y/o) and thought FTX was simply another game . Using the guise of “doing well for humanity & changing the world” & his ridiculous costume of cargo pants, tee shirts and sandals / he played the part with finesse & fooled and deeply hurt a lot of people. One of the most fascinating stories I’ve heard (lots of similarities to Bernie Madoff & Elizabeth Holmes of Theranos). He’s your basic con man playing the role of a savant & stealing people’s money while soaking in the adoration of his followers.

Wondery’s production value and hosts are always good, but the reporting of this one of left me wanting. The episodes are short and don’t dive too deep. It’s not a terrible binge listen, but you won’t learn anything new if you have even a passing knowledge of this story.
