“I’ve been a Spider-Man fan for over 30 years and I’ve been listening to this podcast since episode 42, the JM DeMatteis interview. Moderated with consummate ease by Brad Douglas, the panel is full of strong personalities with strong, frequently opposed, views. That’s one of the great strengths of the show, even though the panel has gone through some changes, and the former panellists are missed, the debates have remained lively and thought provoking, often providing an alternative perspective worth consideration. That’s not to say you’ll agree with all their conclusions but it’s always good to have your point of view challenged.
Last month’s episodes were a great example of what the show does well. Spider Satellites encouraged me to try some books I’d assumed weren’t worth reading and the 250th episode was a great insight into Spider history from a couple of the members of the team. Really great listening.
Linking to the 1st interview I heard on the show, JM DeMatteis talked about changes in the books that you don’t like and said you shouldn’t judge the change, you should judge the stories they tell from it. I stuck with the books through Brand New Day and Big Time, even when it seemed frequently that Marvel had forgotten how to relate to Peter Parker. The panel are doing what I couldn’t though and given the books a chance through Octavius’ time as Peter. I can’t bring myself to actively support the books following the events of ASM 700 but the podcast (and the forum reviews) keeps me connected and involved as I await the return of Peter to the book. In the meantime, Crawlspace give honest, insightful opinions and keep an open mind about the story-telling.
5 years on, I’m still enjoying the work. Thanks for all your efforts!
Highly recommended.”
