Wow - Haggai!!
Incredible!! I just listened to the Haggai episode and wow! I recently got married and the night of the wedding, I slept at a very unclean Airbnb and king story short, the morning of my wedding I woke up with a skin illness that overcame my entire body. Every area on my skin had inflamed red bumps all over except my stomach. Fortunately, you couldn’t see the bumps as clearly in our wedding pictures, but leading up to the day of our honeymoon, the bumps continued to spread and I cried out to the Lord asking Him why this was happening to me during what was supposed to be one of the happiest times in my life. That cry was answered in the most gentle and loving way. God brought me to 1 Timothy 6, which then led me to 1 Peter and then to Haggai. I had never read Haggai before, but what instantly stood out to me was where he says that the people were doing so much yet coming back with so little. It reminded me of the months I had spent planning for a wedding just for it to not go AT ALL the way I had planned. But God brought such a deep lesson through it all. I love that this podcast gave me the necessary historical context for this short book, and further reinforced the lesson that the Lord wants His church to focus on building the body of Christ above building earthly or materials things that build ourselves up. Now is not the time to just dwell in our “cieled houses” (as the KJV says), now is the time for the body of Christ to recognize its identity, to remember that we face these trials as opportunities for increased patience and, as 1 Peter says, to rejoice in knowing that we share in the same suffering as Christ did. With my body going through what it did physically, it reminded me of how Jesus washes us our sins with His blood and joins us to His body in His death and resurrection. In the same way that Haggai tells the people to go to the mountain and get wood, wood shows up again as Jesus hangs on a cross made of wood. The cross symbolizes the redemption we have through Jesus’ death and our reconciliation with God through Jesus. I am just soooo blessed to have checked my phone and seen this episode today. I’m excited to read Ezra and better understand the political tension you mentioned, as I can clearly see a lot of that today in our current American climate (and especially in North Carolina where I live). The question I am asking myself now is: what does obedience look like for the people of God? When the body comes together, what is its mission? We are called to live sacrificially, not holding on to our life on earth but always ready to be charitable (as 1 Corinthians and 1 Peter in the KJV says, charity is the greatest of these). Thank you both so much for your obedience and for the laughs along the way! This message was such a blessing 🙏🏾
