Description
Pro athletes have careers many sports fans can only dream of, but they are people, too. And, just like the rest of us, athletes are dealing with isolation, stress and a lack of facilities to keep in shape, even as leagues are preparing to return. So, what are they doing?
Matt Nichol is the owner of Paragenix Systems and a strength and conditioning coach for a number of NHL stars. He talks to Donnovan and Richard about how his athletes are training right now, managing their routines remotely, the challenges that come with a break in high-end athletes’ routines, ways he ramps up programs as returning to play gets closer, and his thoughts on how the training industry will look like after COVID-19.
Sleep also plays a key role. Dr. Colleen Carney is an Associate Professor and Director of the Sleep and Depression Laboratory at Ryerson University, and, while at Duke University, was a recipient of the National Sleep Foundation’s Pickwick Fellowship. She discusses the relationship between sleep and performance, whether screen time has a negative impact on sleep and how much rest athletes — and average people — need to be at their best.
