“Dear Mr. Forbes, I love your podcast and usually agree with you on most topics. However, I disagree with you on drug pricing. I agree with President Trump’s idea to cap drug prices at the average price that other developed countries pay for the same drugs. Why is it ok for drug companies to price gouge U.S. consumers, when other countries pay half what we pay in the United States for the same drugs?
However, I think that the best way to control drug prices is to allow consumers to purchase drugs from other countries. My watch is made in Switzerland. Why can I buy a watch from Switzerland, but not prescription drugs? Foreign competition would lower drug prices just like it has lowered prices in other products, such as cars and watches. Capitalism only works in free markets. Drug companies should not be allowed to avoid international competition.”
