“Generally speaking, I love Crooked Media content, and have been a devoted listener to PSTW, PSA and Lovett or Leave It for years. I haven’t even minded the increase in ads on the flagship podcasts because they do their best to make them funny.
And this podcast is not exception, content-wise: It’s a great topic, it’s well-researched, we’ll-written and well-produced.
But the sheer number, duration and repetitiveness of the ad breaks in Stiffed is unbelievable. I’ve only listened to 3 episodes so far and I can already pretty much recite the ads word for word, since I’m hearing them at least 3 times each, per episode. And the episodes are only 30 minutes long!
I know the iHeart overlords are stern taskmasters who don’t mind rendering the podcasts in their stable virtually unlistenable due to ad breaks, but holy geez I thought Crooked had more influence - like I thought they could insist on fewer ad breaks by demonstrating they could generate more revenue per ad (“because we’re known for quality, not like those slapped-together Wondery podcasts”).
Anyhow, if you plan to listen to this, do yourself a favour and make sure you’ve got your hands free to fast forward past 3 minutes of ads for every 6 minutes of content.”
