American Christian Nationalists don’t want Israel to back down. They don’t want the war to fade away. However, they also believe that Apocalypse will involve the complete destruction of Israel in its present form, so that a new Christian Israel can emerge as a theocracy that will take over the entire Earth. In other words, they want Israel to become strong so that it can be offered up as a kind of holy sacrifice on a national scale during the return of Jesus. They want to protect Israel so that Israel can be destroyed, with Jesus sparing only those Jews who convert to Christianity. Are progressive pro-Palestinian protesters falling into the trap of this conceptual framework? Are they making pro-Israel Christian extremists stronger with their pro-Gaza protests?
