Perfect Place to Learn Story Structure
If you’re looking to figure out how to write a novel that is engaging and doesn’t go off the rails, this is a great place to start (It’s also a solid place to help hone your craft). Shawn and Tim’s combination of experience and exuberance to learn is a great combo that keeps things fresh and interesting. I like how Tim challenges Shawn’s advice as well, when he doesn’t think it’s right. Great stuff. I feel like a lot of other writers podcasts out there preach word counts over quality. This one is more about how to go about writing well, in a way that makes your story ‘work’. Made me buy The Story Grid book.

As a writer-in-training, I’ve listened to lots of different writing podcasts over the years. This is one of the best—if not THE best. I’m loving it so far. Please, guys, keep up the good work!

Superb Podcast! A must listen for anyone who loves the craft of story. I now find myself dissecting stories for the necessary parts that make a page turner. My family has actually realized there is more to story than they thought. Thank you Tim and Shawn!

What more need be said? Want to understand why some stories work and others don't? It is all here, and in the book and blog. Of the three, the podcast covers the inevitable related side questions more elegantly, because of the interview/dialogue format. Aside from all of that, it is fun!Read full review »
