“I will admit that I am only one story in, I can not speak to all off the productions. That being said, the one cast that I have listened to, “Finding Chika”, the story is quite well done. The reading handled well, if delivered in a slightly monotonal fashion. This is not the problem, as the reader is not a voice actor, my expectations were well satisfied.
The problem is pure and simple, the music. The inane music, which simultaneously overwhelmed the story telling, and assaults the sensibilities of the listener.
The poorly mixed-and-matched clips do nothing at all to aid the quality of the cast. In fact, it strongly detracts. The music to start off with, is too loud, deminishing the voice of the reader. Nor does it ever seem match up with the “scene”.
I understand that it is attempting to lighten what is a beautifully happy and terribly heart breaking story, in which I revel in the love that it expresses, but it does not act as a counter balance to the deep emotions expressed, or reflect the emotional tensions. Instead it wanders all over the place, like a stupidly drunk child lost in a mountain field, raging with laughter in the wrong places, tripping and stumbling and leaping and falling, all in the wrong places.
That being said, I will listen to more, I will continue to listen, to and hope for better production.
Addendum:
So... I have listened to three of four stories, and they, the writings, are moving and powerful. But still the music still detracts and distracts, and ruins an otherwise enjoyable cast.
While I enjoy the stories, I can not stand the production. I don’t think that I could be forced to listen to the last podcast.”
