“This was one of the best Chelsea pods until recently, when the budget got cut and they went went from twice to once a week; culling the number of contributors in the process. As well as making things feel less ‘current’ the additional prominence given to the core team of host Matt, Liam Twomey and Simon Johnson really underlines one thing… While Matt is great and Liam is fine I suppose, Simon Johnson is really tedious. He has a whole ‘self depreciating/ isn’t it funny how I’m so downbeat’ schtick that isn’t nearly as amusing as he thinks it is. Every episode feels like he’s half-heartedly auditioning to be the worst stand up on the circuit. Matt and Liam don’t really help with this, effectively encouraging it. I’m so bored of hearing him chuckle at his own draining routine at this point. Please The Athletic - sub him out and get this once good podcast back on track.”
