“I LOVE Straight White American Jesus, and I say that as a former evangelical. But I’m not referring to the man himself, but this podcast. It’s just the best!
Bradley Onishi and Dan Miller have created a fantastic podcast that has been churning out genius episode after genius episode. And their way of presenting each episode is engaging and full of wonderful insights. There really isn’t a better podcast.
If you’re just starting out, I might recommend “The Orange Wave” series, a 10-part series that details the rise of evangelicalism in Orange County, CA in the 20th Century. I was introduced to SWAJ around the middle of 2020 when Trumpism was at its most outrageous leading up to the 2020 election.
One thing that has been amazing to me is how this podcast about Evangelicals is so closely tied to American politics writ large.
I can’t recommend it more highly, it’s great! Give them all a listen.”

“I fell in love with this podcast from the interview with Dr. Randall Balmer. It was so eye-opening to hear how the early evangelical movement in the 1970’s was not motivated by opposition to abortion but by defense of “segregation academies.” Keep the interviews coming!”
