“Wow, what a refreshing listen. This podcast has quickly become a favorite way to bring myself out of my own head. These episodes remind me that my situation, my issues, and my life are not the center of the universe.
Due to a surprise genetic heart condition, I’ve become much more homebound and isolated than my naturally curious and gregarious personality desires. As I eagerly await open heart surgery at Mayo that will hopefully give me my active and socially connected life back, these stories have hit me in an unexpected way. I feel as if I’m meeting these wonderful people and talking to them myself.
I’ve been so starved for authentic connections with the large world around me for so long that this podcast has gone way beyond entertaining me. It has reminded me that there’s a whole wide world of fascinating, worthwhile people out there, and that I just need to hurry up and get well enough to join society again.
I’ve always known that other people are fascinating, and I’ve always enjoyed chatting up random strangers whenever and wherever I encounter them. (My personal motto: Everyone is a friend until proven otherwise.) I love getting people to talk and educate me about their lives. This podcast essentially does that for me, and beautifully displays the fascinating differences between us, while simultaneously reinforcing that we are all essentially the same.
P.S. I really want to give the guy in the first episode a giant hug. I can’t stop thinking about him and hoping that he’s still doing okay. He seems like a genuine good person who has been dealt some pretty serious challenges to overcome, and he inspires me with his positive outlook on difficult situations.”
