I’d give it more like three and a half stars
I agree with other reviewers: the host needs to learn more about the appropriate way to treat the subject of child abuse. The old intro was shockingly inappropriate and sensationalizing, but the new theme music isn’t great, either. The cutesy lullaby music is nauseating. It feels exploitative and just icky. There are also sound effects thrown in throughout that wouldn’t sound out of place on a ‘wacky’ radio morning show; again, incredibly inappropriate. I would say either have no music at all, or, as someone else suggested, Google something like ‘sad piano music’. This is an important subject to discuss; it needs to be treated with the proper sense of gravity. It’s hard to take it seriously and not feel like it’s just someone reveling in ‘murder porn’ with the music and sound effects added in. Please set a somber tone or it comes off as exploitative. I think the host has good intentions, but the approach needs work. Also have to add that I really appreciate that the host discourages balloon/paper lantern releases! I cringe every time I hear about them in true crime podcasts. There are other ways to honor and remember victims without trashing the planet. So that is a definite plus.

Great way to bring these horrible offenses to light. The creepy music is perfect!! And the added commentary is right on point!! Especially about not having balloon launches and how dangerous they are to the environment!!

Hm
While I appreciate what you are doing with this podcast and the money, effort and time you put into this endeavor, as a childhood abuse survivor I do not appreciate how often you tend to make light of triggers or trigger warnings. You also tend to react to those parents from poor backgrounds with...Read full review »
