Description
Project Audion has been on a bit of a tear lately, and we have another show for you already! Yup, this Friday, September 13, Audion premieres our recreation of the classic romantic comedy, "Pride and Prejudice" as delightfully condensed for the CBS radio network series "Romance" in the 1940s.
The Columbia network brought its listeners "Romance" for fourteen years beginning in 1943. The series was an anthology of half-hour love stories both classic and new, serious and comic. You'd think a novel like Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" would be a particular challenge to reduce to a mere half-hour, but "Romance" captured the core of the tale in a briskly-moving, nicely-entertaining adaptation that was performed several times between 1943 and 1947. The existing vintage recordings sound muddy and are not always well-cast, so it seemed an ideal candidate for Project Audion to recreate.
