“As a scientist, I can tell when I’m listening to a fellow scientist, and when I’m listening to someone whose in thrall to industry (and unfortunately, I have run across papers in medical/pharmaceutical science that strike me as the latter category). Kevin Folta talks and explains things as a scientist, even if he does go to lengths to make his podcast accessible to listeners who may have less than a biology major grasp of the technology. He asks and addresses the questions I would ask of the various people he interviews, and this tells me that he is a truth-seeker.
Truth-seeking doesn’t necessarily qualify one for sainthood (one need only read Richard Feynman’s popular autobiographical writings for an example), but in the case of Kevin Folta, his dedication to explaining the issues to the public (initially entirely, and now with a bit of support funneled through his university) show his missionary zeal for public service.
For anybody wanting to get a scientists true take on biotechnology, especially as it pertains to agriculture, there is no better choice.”
