How to stop my child hitting
I listened to this podcast this morning as we are having awful problems with our 6 year old daughter hitting me (not my wife or other children fortunately). Already I have said to her today “oh, you want my attention” and she stopped straight away, and another time I said “it feels like you’re drumming, do you want to tap the floor?” And it worked! I also realise now that when I say to her “it sounds like you’re angry” it makes it much worse and knowing that this is normal (when I try to name her emotions and this makes it worse) made me feel so much better as I had felt I was really failing. The next test will be when she is very angry and does this but I already feel I have the script to use when this happens. Finally feeling empowered and like we might be able to have a good summer.
