I like this podcast but sometimes find hosts a little...
I quite enjoy this podcast, it’s a bit dull but perfect to have on in the background when I’m working or exercising, I’m the type of person who likes to have chatter around me. The hosts can be a little problematic at times e.g. an episode were Booksnob mentions how she can get Booker prize books in the library since moving from a more middle class area to Tower Hamlets and Stuckinabook says something along the lines of “yay for mass illiteracy” I’m a working class person listening to the podcast and it’s like 👀 wow they’ve really missed the Mark there. Another time talking about American vs British books and Booksnob said that British people have this strong sense of National identity (*cough* white British people) conversations around colonisation that almost celebrate the British having had the front to do it. Sometimes I feel the hosts (more so Booksnob) are a little unconsciously bias, she doesn’t like Japanese writing, she doesn’t like Zadie Smith or Toni Morrison, there’s a slight pattern that as a person of colour listener has put my back up a bit. I would love to hear them speak more about writers from different backgrounds. I know the hosts like reading 20th century novels and “classics” but perhaps they should try and explore more books written by working class people, people of colour, non western classic etc. I think this would give their podcast more richness.

I just came across the podcast a couple months ago and have already read several books because they were...Read full review »
