“I totally love you guys, and you truly filled up a hole in my heart. Slightly serious content ahead: my mom was a lifelong movie buff, and I caught the bug from her. One of our favorite guilty pleasures was to settle in for an afternoon of bad movie watching-our favorites were overwrought melodramas from the 1940’s and 50’s, happily agonizing with the golden age divas of that period-Stanwyck, Crawford, Baxter, and of course, Queen Bette Davis.
Since my mom passed away, I lost that particular joy, and it has only been recently that I have been able to sit down and watch any of those movies. Happily, I just recently discovered you two gems, and it truly was like sitting on the sofa with my mom again-laughing ourselves silly over smoldering looks, terrible fashion choices and ill timed face slaps.
Your deep dive into the Valley of the Dolls had me in stitches-Erika, your Anne as Hannibal Lecter-chef’s kiss! You both truly sphakle! (Also, thank you for promoting Sunset Boulevard for the brilliant film that it is.) Looking forward many more warm and hilarious afternoons with you as I wade into your library. Fingers crossed that you will someday find it in your hearts to explore the films of director extraordinaire, Douglas Sirk. All That Heaven Allows and Magnificent Obsession were the epitome of the so called “women’s pictures”, and I have a feeling you both would have a field day.
Wishing you all the best and many trashy movies in your future.”
