What should you look for in a friend? Let’s look at what Peter says. Over and over again in chapters 2-4… this phrase is repeated: It is better to suffer for what is good than to suffer for doing evil. Doing what is right is so hard. Doing what is right is actually going against what feels natural. So in a sense, you suffer when you do what is right by denying yourself and doing what is unnatural. In verse 4 of 1 peter chapter 4 we read that our friends who are not walking with Jesus will be surprised when you do not join them in sin, because it is unnatural for us not too.“Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin as to live for the rest of time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God.” 1 Peter 4:1
Find friends who won’t be surprised but who will suffer with you for doing what is right.
