Description
As we get closer and closer to the end of 2020, we’ve been asking Newstalk listeners what the 20 most influential moments of the last 20 years are… It’s been 20 years since the Millennium and in that time, we’ve had political upheaval at home and abroad, technological advances and significant social change… We had the first Black President of the United States, the Queen in Croke Park, a new currency, a global financial crash, a pandemic… Over the next four weeks, we’re focusing on one of the Top 20 each day – and first up is the civil war of 2002 – Saipan! Ger Gilroy recalls how the launch of Off The Ball couldn't have come at a better time - and how he has slightly shifted his position in the Roy vs Mick debate over the years. Pat Kenny hears from Bertie Ahern, who as Taoiseach at the time was considered as a possible mediator. Kieran Cuddihy spoke to Sunday World football writer John Brennan and Sean Moncrieff hears from Dick Redmond, the longtime kitman for the Irish soccer team. And Andrea Gilligan talks to callers who demonstrate that the issue remains as divisive as ever, almost 20 years later! Check out newstalk.com/20moments for more
