For this episode of The All-Around Adventure Podcast, I'm joined by ecclesiastical historian and buildings archaeologist, Dr. Emma Wells. Dr. Wells developed a passion for history at a young age. When her grandmother would take her to many different churches and historical sights around the UK. This passion eventually led her to the University of York (my alma mater!). Where she earned a BA in History of Art and an MA in Buildings Archeology. From there she went on to Durham University to earn her Ph.D. in Buildings Archeology. Following her own educational endeavors, she returned to York to begin working as a lecturer. And she is now the leader for both the PGDip in Parish Church Studies program and the MA in English Building History program. Along with her work in academia, Dr. Wells is also a broadcaster, tour guide, and a published author. Her first book, titled Pilgrim Routes of the British Isles, was released in 2016. She also has another book, titled Heaven on Earth: The Lives and Legacies of the World’s Greatest Cathedrals, which is set to be released in 2022. Furthermore, she writes regularly for various publications and appears on different broadcasts in the UK. In this episode, Dr. Wells tells us more about her story. We also have a great discussion on the different medieval pilgrim routes in the UK that are available to modern-day travelers. As well as other amazing places to visit in the UK. Such as the city of York, a place that I once called home! And in typical All-Around Adventure fashion, she shares some of the takeaways and life lessons that she's learned from her travels and from studying history!
