Host Try’s to Hard
I enjoyed the PBS documentary but this podcast lacks substance. The host seems out of her element. Often times she goes on a long winded explanation/question that leaves the guest with nothing to add. Instead of allowing the guest to explain through their own words. I often felt the host was jockeying for approval with the guest’s and the audience. It seemed the goal was to be a directors commentary to the documentary. But dives into the politics of the war on a one sided conversation. There is no counterpoint to the conversation. The host try’s to wow the audience with a higher education talk of the war but lacks substance as a 30 something looking to explain a world she herself was never apart of. Also we get it, the host had a interest in the Vietnam war when she was a kid. Reminding the listener ever episode with accounts of Halloween costumes and the amount of time researching as a kid is unnecessary past episode one. The host is presenting a podcast on the topic and the listener would agree the host has knowledge. I would much rather listen to someone who had no idea of the war and is discovering new things then a host desperately trying to convince me of the vast knowledge of the topic.

I liked the podcast, in watching the episodes along with this podcast and I really enjoy hearing the opinions of the film makers

I’m sorry to be callous, but I just can’t get past the vocal fry in the host’s voice. I don’t understand why she couldn’t take the producer’s seat and let a broadcast professional do the talking.

The interviewer croaks along at the second half of each sentence. It's unlistenable. Too bad.Read full review »
