Not in pastoral ministry, but I relate
When John Mark Comer said, he only felt the grace of God to preach, then it left him. I nodded. As a mom, there are blocks of days/weeks, where the grace is only to complete the tasks God has given me, and once I’m done, I don’t have energy for anything. I also relate to preaching to the principalities of the air. Humble brag, but I knew about that reality before this podcast. Only because of experience. There are seasons, where I can feel strong opposition to pray and worship. And when I do preach aloud the realities of the gospel to my own soul — I can feel the heaviness, as if the darkness is saying “shut up, don’t say Jesus died on the cross, don’t remind us” Burn out is real. I’d argue that Christians, whether you are in pastoral ministry or not, are more likely to experience some extent of burn out. Because our daily lives are always waging war against invisible enemies of evil.
