Episode 21, Anna Woodward in joined by London based artist Kate Burling. Kate creates abstract paintings that investigate the concept of gunman stillness and music. Kate is interested in the feeling and energy that is felt when something is restricted and looks to portraying this in her work. Kate is currently in her second year at Camberwell however has spent most of her degree working from home. This has influenced and altered her practice, through the light and scale of her work, but also through her subject. In Kate’s abstract paintings she depicts beings and domestics objects, she feels the domestic objects act as anchors and help the viewer read her work. The use of drones tic objects has been heavily influenced by working at home rather than in a studio. Kate career highlight so far was her November solo show with Guts Gallery, this was her experience of creating a body of work and she felt it really developed and pushed her practice forward.
