At age 27, he fulfilled his desire to be a monk. He entered the monastery of Bec in Normandy and was elected Prior three years later. St. Anselm was later named Abbot of the monastery. In 1093 he was summoned to England to become the Archbishop of Canterbury. The brilliance of St. Anselm's thinking and writing about the nature of faith and of God has influenced scholars since the Middle Ages. His written works have been studied and praised by many of the world's greatest theologians and philosophers. St. Anselm died in the year 1109.  We celebrate his feast day on April 21.
