Great writing, the story and dialogue are snappy and compelling, and the vocal performances both spoken and sung are individually and collectively excellent. I love all the background detail, and how even minor characters are distinctive and well-realised.
The music too is extraordinary; shifting from big-budget Disney musical to Kurt Weill, via Sondheim-style recitative and a socialist sea shanty, and yet all these elements feel part of a coherent and original whole. The whole thing is put together with real care and rich production values. Brilliant stuff!”
