On the ethics of school consultation
I really enjoyed the episode with Missy Olive! It really outlined the need for better guidelines for providing behavioral services in schools- I didn’t realize that federal courts don’t even define FBA and how messy that can get in special education law. So many people are under the impression that beginning BCBAs should be immediately involved in positions at schools- but really, for the most part these positions should be for the most experienced BCBAs! As Missy said, it’s a lot different from a clinical setting where you are in control of everything. Also Missy’s point about how in student IEPs we need to make it required that we are focusing on functional outcomes just as much as educational. A really informative episode.
