Descending into conspiracy theory
I enjoyed the first few episodes that told the story of the Belgrano sinking using the diary of the Supply Officer of the Conqueror. However, as the series has progressed, it has descended into the modern phenomenon of podcasts to find conspiracy in every action. The main protagonists are perfect conspiracy fodder from the eccentric ex Naval Officer now living in St Lucia though to the aristocratic Etonian left-wing Labour MP. The series therefore unfortunately provides little balance and comes across as supremely naive and riddled with hindsight vision on what was a war-time situation.

More reviews of The Belgrano Diary
Sub sinks enemy cruiser at time of conflict shock! Strategic action that sent the Argentinian Navy back to port for the duration of the conflict probably saving many British lives. Unbalanced account of incident and significance. Narrators tone sneering at times.

A desperate rehash of an old non-story, complete with “Young Ones” style anti thatcher propaganda. Of course the navy didn’t want details of a sub engagement in the midst of the Cold War picked over in public and I believe even the Captain of the Belgrano thought the story laughable at the time.
