“I am a Southerner from WV living in California, and though my political and social views are more in step with California than my home state, I get pretty homesick sometimes. This podcast is like a little mini-trip back home. I just learned about it and the magazine, so I’ve been devouring episodes and articles whenever I get a chance to. This is some of the best writing and podcasting out there. I recommend the Waffle House episode for beginners. In this one episode, you have excellent research into the history and corporate structure of Waffle House and the implications of this business design on the people who work and/or eat there. But you also have a very entertaining, lighthearted look into the pure joy of Waffle House culture, including a behind-the-scenes look into the music of Waffle House. This could be a purely silly episode, but it’s an excellent documentary about an establishment we all know and love. This is just one example of the thoughtful, informative, entertaining work that goes into this podcast. Every episode I’ve listened to, so far, is this engaging. Whenever I listen, I feel like I’ve been home, and I’m ready to go out into the world to hug more necks, abide no hatred, and to do the things I love with the people I love.”
