The Myths of Diabetes Type 1 & 2 with Isaac Pohlman
Listen now
Description
So once upon a time, Type 1 diabetes was known as something you were  born with or developed as an infant or young child and Type 2 diabetes was known as being the one you developed from being overweight and living the high fat, high sugar, processed food and sedentary lifestyle.  But I am seeing more and more that these are not the norms anymore.  I have clients who don’t eat “bad food” and are pre-diabetic and I have clients with chronic blood sugar handling issues that have a myriad of issues and all that is being prescribed is metformin.  And as my guest today will tell you, there are more and more young adults being diagnosed with Type 1 later in life. My guest today, Isaac Pohlman has a degree in Physiology, a Masters in Nutritional Science and is a Registered Dietitian.  But he also has Type 1 Diabetes and hypothyroidism, both of which he developed in college. Today I want to ask him about his work specializing in people with blood sugar handling issues and insulin resistance ie some people have these issues and don’t have diabetes, why its happening and what we can do about it rather than cutting out entire food groups from our diet and going on drugs, that just cascade into needing more and more drugs. In this episode, we talk about: What is diabetes Type 1 Type 2 What is insulin resistance  What is blood sugar handling How are blood sugar and insulin related How is diabetes diagnosed The glucose tolerance test The HBA1C The use of insulin  The use of metformin Cutting out sugar for diabetes management The liver and diabetes PUFA and diabetes Fructose Grain consumption and diabetes The SAD and diabetes Gluten and diabetes Paleo Keto  Restoring metabolic function using metabolic foods and food timing macro balancing Using interventions like niacinamide, aspirin, taurine etc Thyroid and diabetes Cholesterol Statins Autoimmune References: Broda Barnes Ray Peat Josh Rubin You can find Isaac on instagram as @isaacpohlman.  Please tag us both and let us know if you got something out of this episode and please remember to subscribe, rate and review as it really does help this podcast get to more and more people so they can know how their Body Never Lies.
