We all suffer from moments of tedium when we find ourselves in conversations that drag on, or when we’re in a meeting conducted in monotone, or when we’re waiting for our car to get fixed, or the bus to arrive. However, tedium isn’t boredom and boredom isn’t tedium. Tedium is more of a momentary experience that goes away when the cause of it goes away. Boredom, on the other hand, is a state of mind that lingers. Consequently, it’s more difficult to shake off because of the emotional and chemical grip it has on the mind.
