Outstanding Humans!
I attended a conference yesterday held in New Jersey to learn more about Character Strong and their philosophy. Houston and Kemy (hope I got the spelling right - names are important!) were the speakers for the day. It was by far the best conference I have ever been to hands down. You know a conference is good when you feel changed as a person for the better simply for being present hearing their message. They are the real day. They live and breathe their message. The message is simple - “make kindness normal.” Seems simple right? Not so much in today’s world. They offer simple, straightforward ideas for how to weave SEL and character into education everyday. Students need direct teaching in SEL and Character to be successful! Their lessons, ideas, etc are what they call “plug and play.” They have done all of the hard work for you! I could go on and on about Character Strong. We need more of their teachings in our schools, homes and world. I am overjoyed that they have a podcast. Their ideas are ones you can implement right away so I look forward to hearing more from this group through the podcast. I found myself energized and motivated to continue the hard work of education day in and day out in our schools. I imagine this podcast will be a weekly pick me up when feeling defeated, exhausted, stretched thin, overwhelmed (this will happen if you work in education). I highly recommend you give this podcast a listen - you may just find yourself changed as well. Be kind - what a world this would be if we all just followed those two words even when inconvenient - just be kind.

Our schools need to be reminded about what’s important. We need students and staff who have awareness and then compassion to act on the needs they see. CharacterStrong is a great resource to help us stay focused on the social emotional learning that’s far too often absent in school curriculum....Read full review »

Practical, bite-sized bits of wisdom on servant leadership for and with my staff and especially my students. I love being reminded of how important my job of educator is and what my purpose is, and this podcast does both in each episode so far. John Norlin and Houston Kraft are two of the BEST! Just finished listening to my first episode! This podcast is such a beautiful example of what can be done when we put our energy into fostering kindness, love and a positive school culture.
