“If you’re a fan of Dr. Mike you’ll love this podcast, and if you’re new to Dr. Mike you’ll also love this podcast. He has a very natural, yet engaging interview approach. He allows his guest to tell their story without interjecting bias or steering the conversation to a pre-determined narrative. Per Dr. Mike’s request, my medical question is: is there an alternative to Pap smears as a way to check for cervical cancer? I tried asking my doctor and they cut me off with a very firm “No” and changed the subject. What I wanted to tell my doctor, before they cut me off, was that I had seen an interview with a doctor who worked for Doctors Without Borders and in Africa, due to lack of resources, they were doing urine tests to check for cervical cancer. In her opinion, the urine tests were as accurate, if not more accurate than the standard Pap smear in detecting cervical cancer. If a Pap smear is the best way to check for cervical cancer, can you give advice to someone who has severe anxiety getting a Pap smear on how to talk to their doctor about their anxiety over the procedure?
