Jay didn’t take the original LIV call, Jay’s strategy was to hold 9-11 widows hands and then ignore them when announcing a framework agreement which even Rory (who had personally backed Jay’s prior plan) didn’t know about. Hovland has earned $40m because he was one of the best golfers. The tour has upped its winnings pot, introduced no cut events and guess what?It’s not sustainable. Jay has backed the tour into a corner where they need money. Any person with an ounce of business nouse will smell their desperation and inevitably the tour will now get less.
You’re basically saying Hovland should shut up because he earned $40m. Sounds like buying his silence.
Hovland is merely saying the direction of the tour hasn’t been with tour golfers in mind. In my view he’s right. And good on him to say it because it will get eyeballs whereas a journeyman tour pro saying it wouldn’t. How on earth Jay hasn’t been sacked by the players is beyond me.”
