Our new book, Paradise Lost: The Machinery of Evil, references a sermon by the man C. S. Lewis called his ”master,” George MacDonald, and from which Lewis quoted as the epigraph of the fourteenth chapter of his autobiography, Surprised by Joy. In today’s Christian Atheist, I read that sermon in its entirety. Its insights are, truly, legendary. Listen to the context of the phrase, ”the one principle of hell is ’I am my own.’”
